"If I can you can"

Who am I?

My name is Shawn and I am a Stage 4 Lymphoma survivor. In fact, I am the only survivor of six cancer warriors in my family. My battle was tough just like many others have faced. This is my story.

Before Cancer

I owned a roofing company that specialized in the historic restoration of slate and metal roofing in seven states, raised four children, and played 40 rounds of amateur golf a year.I really thought I was in shape and healthy but, I was taking life for granted.

During chemo

Complications with medication caused me to stop my chemo, left me with no immune system, and double pneumonia. I spent almost three months on a 100% breather. When I was finally able to get up and move, I couldn't walk more than 300 steps a day. I pushed myself with my wife's help and decided that I would fight hard to repair my damaged body.

AFTER CHEMO

I was frail and had muscle atrophy. Every joint was sore from the prednisone and walking was painful and hard at best. I needed something that would help me get my strength back but at the same time low-impact to limit pain.

SO IT BEGAN

I began cycling and started "World's Okayest Cyclist™️" to promote fitness and aid others in recovering after their cancer treatments. After a couple of years of wanting to be okay again, I came up with the name. I was able to get my health back and lower my weight from 209 lbs to 163 lbs. I am healthier now than before my cancer.I truly believe that "If I can, you can."You don't have to be an athlete to start out. I had ridden a bike since I was around 14 years old. It was a slow process but every day I got stronger both mentally and physically.
